AN EVENT showcasing Whitley Bay over the decades has been hailed a success.
Culture Quarter's Memories week saw people from all over North Tyneside flock to the coast to share their images and memories of Whitley Bay, as well as see what other people had brought.

The event, supported by Tyne and Wear Museums, started off with an evening of songs, poems and stories about the area.

Two of the highlights of the week were poetry readings by Keith Armstrong and a talk by local historian Morag Horseman.

During the week, people visited Culture Quarter's headquarters in Marine Avenue with their own memories, photographs, household items, clothing and more, with the war time ratio display proving popular with youngsters.

And since the week finished, officials at Culture Quarter have been inundated with people offering photographs, stories and documents, which could be used for future 'memories' events.
