AN ARTISTIC space for local people to showcase their work has been officially opened – by two famous local musicians.
Ray Laidlaw and Billy Mitchell were on hand to cut the ribbon, marking the launch of Culture Quarter's CQ:Gallery at their headquarters on Marine Avenue, Whitley Bay.

The gallery space will host a series of themed exhibitions of arts and crafts by local artists.

And it will continue to hold 'Memories' events every few weeks, enabling residents and visitors to add their thoughts, stories and memorabilia to the growing archive which started after the recent 'Memories of Whitley Bay'.

The next of these events will be 'Whitley at War' – being held on October 23, 24, and 25; running in conjunction with the CQ:Folk Weekend at the Berkeley Tavern.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to drop in and share their stories and photographs of Whitley Bay during wartime, which can go on display.

The folk weekend will encompass a songs and poems session, a ceilidh and a concert, as well as various dance troupes in the town centre and outside CQ:HQ.

Acts already confirmed are George Welsh, the Robin Dunn Band, and Prelude.

For more information about the gallery space, or to buy tickets for the folk weekend, contact Culture Quarter on (0191) 253 0466 or email info@culturequarter.org
