More than 100 residents turned up to hear Culture Quarter's plans for the town, the Playhouse and the Dome.
And although the group is still involved in talks with North Tyneside Council over the future use of the Dome, they have started arranging taster events of what could be brought to the town on a larger basis.
Bosses at Culture Quarter, who still have hopes of being given the chance to run the Playhouse, are to hold another meeting to outline their own latest plans and that of the two iconic buildings.
Chairman Christine Savage said: "A Trust would be able to attract funding because of its not-for-profit status that for-profit developers and managers would not.
"A Trust would employ local people and facilitate the start up of new arts-based businesses.
"Surpluses generated would stay in the local economy. Control of the buildings and activities would remain with local people."
She added: "We want to see a vibrant programme of cultural and mind sports events offered in Whitley Bay, with the fullest possible participation by local people.
"We want to give people a reason to come to Whitley Bay, and to have a great experience of the town."
Culture Quarter have plans for mind sports, plays and other performances, exhibitions, singing, dancing and other cultural events.
The meeting will take place at the Windsor Hotel, South Parade, Whitley Bay, on Tuesday, March 3, at 7pm.
