A MIND sports session is being held every week in Whitley Bay.

Every Wednesday night between 6-8pm, Culture Quarter will run the new session in the lounge of the Berkeley Tavern on Marine Avenue, Whitley Bay, where there will be the chance to play games to tax the mind such as chess, backgammon, or scrabble.

All levels of skill are catered for from just learning a new game to those who have played in competition at various stages.

After 8pm the activity changes to singing or playing instruments. A wide variety of people meet to exchange songs or tunes from a mixed range of genres and abilities.

Culture Quarter's Dave minikin said: "People have the opportunity to perform in a friendly environment.

"Many of whom have never performed in public or have not done so for a number of years. It is a great confidence builder."
