Green, open space should be conserved and protected

IN response to RH of Whitley Bay’s letter (News Guardian, January 10) stating he sees no reason why the Italian restaurant should not be allowed on the Links at Whitley Bay and ends with ‘Let’s move on and make Whitley Bay a place to come to and spend time’.

There is already a Sambuca restaurant in Whitley Bay, one in East Howdon and three on the Fish Quay at North Shields.

If the restaurant is allowed by giving it a ‘toe hold’ on the Links, just how many other restaurants or food outlets will want to have premises there too?

I am from Wallsend and often go to the Links, and like a great deal of other people, spend time there.

I think that the green, open space along with the beautiful beach should be conserved and protected.

Even in the darkest, coldest weather, people are down on the Links and beach, at all times of day, enjoying and appreciating our great coastline.
