Embarking on a new feature as volunteers get donations

DOZENS of trees have been planted in an award winning park area thanks to two donations.

A total of 54 trees have been planted in the Brierdene after the Friends of Brierdene received a small grant from Age UK.

And another 50 trees were also planted in the dene – which stretches from The Links to Whitley Bay Golf Course – after they were provided by one of the group’s members.

Elsewhere, general maintenance work is taking place by the group in the dene including cutting, clearing, sowing seeds, and pruning brambles.

Work will also take place in the burn if water levels remain low.

The friends are holding their AGM on Wednesday, April 24, at 7.30pm. Venue to be confirmed.
