Support for Culture venture

I WRITE in response to Heather Carr's letter of last week and would like to say a big 'thank you' to all the people who are supporting Culture Quarter's work for Whitley Bay.

We have been heartened by all the kind messages we continue to receive, and by the very real support which encourages us in our efforts.

After a recent appeal for volunteers, we now have a wonderful team of people who work in our HQ and on our projects, with no payment, but because they believe in what we are doing, and in our ambitions for the town.

We advertised for local artists to bring their work to us and have been impressed by the quality and quantity of work which local people have produced.

It is clear to us that there is a great deal of talent in Whitley Bay, and we are glad to offer a framework in which artists and craftspeople can flourish.

We were delighted to offer our support to the recent production of Jekyll and Hyde, and the feedback from those who came to see the show was tremendous.

Local amateur groups like these need support and encouragement, to ensure that we keep up the proud tradition of amateur theatre in Whitley Bay.

We are planning our programme for the rest of the year, and we want to continue to offer events in which people can participate and enjoy.

Our 'Whitley Bay Memories Week', which we are running in conjunction with Tyne and Wear Museums during the first week in August, will be another great occasion for people to join in the fun, to learn something, and to contribute to the future success of the town. Come along and join in.

The people of Whitley Bay are more than ready to get involved with the regeneration of their town, and are right to be ambitious for the place where they live and bring up their families, and for Whitley Bay to be – once again – a great place to be.
