Tournament a goal-den opportunity

A FREE five-a-side football tournament for youngsters in North Tyneside is making a comeback after netting lots of interest last year.

The StreetSoccer Tournament is returning to the Parks sport centre North Shields after attracting a turnout of dozens when was held for the first time last June.

Now teams are being invited to take part in this year’s competition at the Howdon Road sports centre on Friday, June 1.

It will be held between 4pm and 7pm.

There will be four age groups – under-11s, under-13s, under-15s and under-17s. Players must be aged nine or over and a maximum of seven players can register for each team.

Trophies and medals will be awarded to the winners, and there will also be medals for runners-up.

The event is being supported by the charity StreetGames.

Craig Robson, a community multi-sports coach at North Tyneside Council, said: “We were really pleased with the success of last year’s event.

“More than 50 young people took part and played in the right spirit.

“This year, we’re hoping that even more get involved.”
