ON Good Friday evening in St Augustin's Church, North Shields, an augmented choir under conductor David Morley performed a performance by John Stainer's The Crucifixion, an oratorio first performed in 1887.
The church is an excellent venue for singing.

Soloists were Ronald Bridget (tenor), Christopher Campbell (baritone), Ernest Scott and Kenneth Banks were voices from the choir.

The choir was excellent in its interpretation and the balance was excellent; every word was heard.

The two soloists were excellent.

The portrayal of The Crucifixion was very dramatic.

David Morley played the organ and conducted with great skill in a performance that was brilliant and dramatic.

The vicar of Christ Church and St Augustin's, the Rev David Kirkwood, introduced the performance and thanked the choir and soloists and David Morley at the close.
