LIFESAVING vessels and other boats have been blessed as part of an annual rogation service.
The annual Rogation Sunday service took place at Cullercoats Harbour where the RNLI lifeboat was blessed.

The Rev Adrian Hughes led the procession to the harbour following a short service at nearby St George's Church, where he was accompanied by the church choir and members of the congregation.

At the lifeboat station, they met the coxswain and crew members, together with members of the local RNLI co-ordinating committee.

A short service was held and the boats in the harbour were blessed, including the Cullercoats lifeboat 'Hylton Burdon'.

Prayers were also said for all parish members and especially for the safety and successful operations of the RNLI crews.

Rogation Sunday started when the church held a procession around all the parish to pray for people, their businesses and for successful harvests, including the harvest from the sea.
