Cable stolen from Metro line in borough

MORE cable has been stolen from the Tyne & Wear Metro line overnight in North Tyneside.
Police received a report of a theft of cable on the metro system between Howdon and Hadrian Park just after 1am today.

It was established that a quantity of communications cable had been stolen and fibre optic cable damaged.

There is no danger to the public, and the metro system is running a normal timetable today.

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to contact the Northumbria Police on 03456 043 043.

The theft comes just a few months after cable was stolen from the track near Percy Main metro station, which led to thousands of passengers having their journey too and from disrupted.
