WALLSEND Air Cadets have been working to restore one of the RAF's earliest jet engine aircraft to pristine condition.
1151 Squadron based in High Street East have been carefully repairing a 1954 WL181 Gloster F8 "Meteor" fighter jet back to its former glory.

The jet entered service for the RAF at the beginning of the fighter jet age, after the Second World War, and was later part of the Meteor display team, the Evergreens.

In co-operation with North East Air Museum in Sunderland, Wallsend cadets have been working on the jet as part of 'Project Meteor'.

Second in command, Flying officer James Elliott, said: "The Cadets are working incredibly hard on Project Meteor and the finished product will be a real achievement for all involved."

Back at their Wallsend base, Cadets are busy rebuilding an ex-military Series Three Land Rover in time for the Wallsend Show in July.
