Cancer charity gets cash boost

NORTH TYNESIDE Employees Charity Committee have raised over £3,000 for Macmillan Cancer Research.
Over the past year the committee have worked flat out to organise events like St Paddy's night, an Australian Christmas BBQ and a charity football match for the charity.

Maureen Flannery, founding member of the group said: "We have been fundraisin
g for years now and all really enjoy it.

"Last year we decided to raise money for Macmillan and we were really pleased when we could hand over the cheque for £3,000."

The group originally started in 2001 when members of North Tyneside Council met on their lunch break to discuss ideas and organise events.

Over the last eight years the committee have raised over £30,000 for various charities.

Kelly Knighting-Wykes, Macmillan community fundraiser said: "There are very few groups fundraising groups like this in North Tyneside and we are really grateful for their support.

"We are so pleased that they chose Macmillan to benefit from all of their hard work and dedication.

"I am sure that it won't be long before they hit their £40k mark."

Over 780 people are diagnosed with cancer everyday.

Macmillan is a source of support that provides, practical, medical, emotional and financial support, not only for the patient, but also for their family.
