A LONG-SERVING member of Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service has been appointed as deputy chief fire officer.
John Hindmarch has been with the service for over 30 years, joining as a firefighter in 1977 before becoming assistant chief fire officer with responsibility for HR, Learning and Development.

During his career, John has served at every fire station within Tyne and Wear.

He will retain his remit for HR, learning and development, and also lead on the move to a new regional control centre in Durham scheduled for August 2009.

John expressed his delight: "I'm looking forward to continuing to build on our success as the best fire and rescue service in the country and ensuring the safety of people in Tyne and Wear."
