TWO men who died after the car they were travelling in plunged 30ft down a ravine have been named by police.
Nicolas Davies, 20 from Whitley Bay was pronounced dead in hospital following the crash in New Hartley Lane on Thursday (July 9) evening.

And Andrew Paul Davies, 24, also from Whitley Bay, died from his injuries at Newcastle General Hospital on Saturday, while a third man is still being treated in hospital for serious injuries.

A 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and bailed pending further inquiries.

The scene of the crash is a straight stretch of road between two bends in New Harley Lane, known locally as the 'Beehive Road', and Northumbria Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them on 03456 043043 ext 63848.

Police had earlier made an appeal for wellwishers not to stop to leave flowers at the scene due to the dangerous nature of the road.
