A PROJECT that enables mental health patients to express their experiences of receiving care both in hospital and the community has been launched.
The work is being carried out by a team of volunteers who have themselves had experience of receiving mental health care and are employed by or volunteers of Northumberland Tyne and Wear NHS Trust.

The study includes a questionnaire of specially developed questions including how patients view the effectiveness of services, relationship with staff and their hopes and aspirations for the future to try and understand the impact the services are having on patients and how they can be improved.

Angela Glascott, development and user involvement officer explained: "In our experience, some mental health care is not always focused on the reality of how patients feel so we saw the potential to start measuring the genuine human experiences that patients have."

The project has already won the mental health category of the Involvement to Impact Awards from the NHS Centre for Involvement.
