More talks over problems with bus services

RESIDENTS in Hadrian Park have met with representatives from Nexus to find a solution to the bus problems affecting people's journeys.
Passengers have been left angry over the last few weeks as bus routes and numbers were amended, leaving people confused and unable to get to certain destinations.
Now a meeting has taken place to try to assist passengers who have been affected by the new routes put in place.
Nexus said at the meeting that while Go Ahead were no longer providing direct services to the coast from Hadrian Park, in-direct services were available.
Now Nexus is looking into providing a service to meet social need through Community Transport, which will operate between Hadrian Park, North Tyneside Hospital and North Shields.
Muriel Grist, chairman of the residents' association, said: "It is likely that Go Ahead will be reviewing the success of their new services late in the summer, but their observations will be made on what is commercially viable.
"Nexus are trying to find a way to provide a service for local people that will go some way to making up for the bus service we have lost.
"Nexus cannot operate in direct competition with the commercial operators, so we appreciate the fact they understand the problems bus users are facing and they are trying to help us.
"With the help of Nexus, the residents' association is designing a questionnaire, which will be distributed with the help of the ward councillors, to local residents.
"We will use the information gathered to demonstrate to the bus companies exactly which services people use and how people have been affected by the cuts in service."
A further meeting is arranged for May 20 where community transport will be discussed further.
A Nexus spokesman said: "We had a positive meeting with the local ward councillors about bus services in Hadrian Park and the possibility of Nexus subsidising a shopper service to provide a link into North Shields.
"Nothing has been agreed at this stage but another meeting is scheduled for later this month."
