DETECTIVES last night arrested a third man as the investigation into the murder of a Byker teenager continues.
The victim, who was named yesterday as Ross Davidson, was found in his flat in Grace Street, Byker, Newcastle on Sunday night having suffered serious head injuries.

Officers were called to the street at 10.15pm on Sunday.

Ambulance paramedics arrived and treated Mr Davidson at the scene but he later died from his injuries.

Three men were reported to have been seen afterwards carrying planks of wood in the area.

Two men, both 22, were arrested in connection with the murder on Monday, and police were granted a further 12 hours by Newcastle Magistrates to question the men.

Northumbria police said they were doing all they can to reassure residents, and extra patrols are being carried out in the area.

Neighbourhood sergeant Tony Hub said: "Crime and violent crime has fallen in the area and serious crimes such as this are unusual.

"However, we do understand people's concerns and are doing all we can to reassure residents.

"This includes extra police patrols by officers and community support officers.

"The area has a dedicated Neighbourhood Policing Team and we would urge anyone in the area who has concerns to get in touch and discuss them."

Anyone with information is asked to ring the incident room at Byker on 08456 043 043 ex 29832 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
