PLANS have been submitted for a new police headquarters for North Tyneside Area Command.
Following a series of public consultations and discussions, Northumbria Police Authority has submitted a planning application to North Tyneside Council.

They hope to build the new headquarters on a six-acre site on Middle Engine Lane, Wallsend, next to B&Q.

Chief Superintendent Steve Storey, of North Tyneside Area Command, said: "Public consultation began last year with a display on the proposed architect's drawings touring local libraries during November and December.

"Leaflets were also circulated asking residents to respond with their views about the proposed building.

"We have listened to these views and are taking them into consideration.

"The site was selected to meet our demanding specifications and we believe these proposed new facilities will enable us to continue to provide excellent policing services for the people of North Tyneside in the future.

"We look forward to the outcome of our planning application."

Chairman of Northumbria Police Authority, Mick Henry, said: "This is part of an ambitious plan to develop police buildings across Northumbria for the future, and to further support the delivery of policing services to our communities."

If planning consent is agreed, it is expected that construction and fitting out will take two years to complete.
