PREPARATIONS are beginning for a popular family event to return next year following another success.
Around 500 people took part in the fifth free 10km 'Stride out to the Lighthouse' walk from the Parks Sports Centre to St Mary's Lighthouse – via the Fish Quay, Tynemouth and Cullercoats.

The event, on June 27, was started by North Tyneside Council's deputy chairman Barbara Stevens and Young Mayor John Akinropo, with both taking part.

Steven Chater, the council's physical activity co-ordinator, was thrilled with the event.

"Although the weather looked less than promising, the turnout was absolutely fantastic," he said.

"Lots of families attended and everyone seems to have a great day.

"Stride out to the Lighthouse is proving a really popular event, and I'm sure next year will be no different."
