STUDENTS in North Tyneside are "careering" towards positive futures after a day of speed dating and dancing.
The motivational Positive Futures event was organised for 134 Year 11, 12 and 13 pupils at Churchill Community College by the College and North Tyneside's Education Business Partnership (EBP), to raise their aspirations and provide information and advice about different career paths.

Representatives from businesses based in the region, including P&G, took part in 'careers speed dating', spending time with the 15 to 18-year-olds to answer their questions and give advice and ideas on getting ahead in the business world.

The students had a ball with break-dancing taster sessions, provided by Mark Keenan of the Amanda Nicole School of Dance, designed as a fun, energetic way to help build confidence and motivate.

Amanda Dunn and Carl Richardson, from P&G's Cobalt Business Park site, volunteered their time as business ambassadors at the event.

Amanda said: "This was a fantastic day for everyone – it's great to have the opportunity to encourage and inspire pupils in local schools to follow their dreams and aspirations.

"The speed dating format provided a fun, informal environment and we were able to give advice to the students about developing transferable skills, as well as use it as an opportunity to correct popular misconceptions about the working world."

Julia Cantwell, North Tyneside EBP's development officer, said: "The students at Churchill Community College really enjoyed the event – with the help of business ambassadors from companies like P&G we can really motivate and inspire young people across the district and help them look forward to positive futures."
