Show Racism the Red Card has been working closely with many other local organisations to organise the family fun day and Elected Mayor of North Tyneside John Harrison is officially opening the event at 10am on Sunday, July 27, at Burnside Enterprise
College.
The event will be compered by Tommy Caulker from World Headquarters and there will be many other wide and varied activities with an anti-racist theme, including performances from Drummed Up and the Streetwise Crunkers, Bollywood Dancing, Hip-hop workshops, Racism Q & A, acrobats and break dancers, arts and crafts, face painting, hair braiding,
street cheer and games, community stalls and multi-cultural food.
The event will finish with the spectacle of 1000 Show Racism the Red Card balloons being released as part of a balloon race.
Wallsend Boys Club have also organised a huge girls football tournament which will run throughout the day with over 40 teams competing.
Mr Harrison said: " I am delighted that North Tyneside is able to host this fantastic festival which celebrates the cultural diversity of our borough and our region.
"As the Elected Mayor, I am proud of the diversity of cultures and experiences and the vibrant nature of our communities. This event strongly demonstrates what can be achieved when people come together to celebrate and understand difference and work towards common goals."
Gary Marshall from Wallsend Boys Club said: "We are really pleased to be involved in this wonderful event which is a brilliant opportunity for young people from all backgrounds to come together and celebrate the diverse communities living in North Tyneside."
The day has been made possible thanks to sponsorship from The Football Foundation, Browells, Smith and Co and Unison and in kind support from many local community groups and individuals.
Northumbrian Water's Alison Mosquera said: "We are delighted to support 'Wallsend Is United' by keeping the footballers hydrated with our bottled tapwater, '97'.
"Drinking plenty of water every day to replace lost bodyfluids, particularly when exercising, is an important part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle."
This is the third of four Show Racism the Red Card Community Festivals in the North East this summer. Still to come is the STAR (Sunderland
Together against Racism) festival on Sunday, August 10.
The previous two events: "Ferryhill Is United" and "Walker Is United" have both been a fantastic success, each attracting well over 1000 attendees.
