A BUDDING young writer from Whitley Bay has scooped the top prize in a story writing competition.
Seven-year-old Sarah McGarry, from Grenada Drive, was awarded first prize in the Story Tyne competition organised by North Tyneside Libraries last week.

Sarah's story about an old bridge was chosen as the winner of the under 10s category, and she was presented with a certificate, £30 book vouchers and a book of her choice by Brian Lister of Biscuit Publishing.

Sarah's mum Susan said: "She was delighted to win – it was a complete surprise.
"We are very impressed with her because she wrong four pages, which is very good for a seven-year-old."
