TRIBUTES have been paid to a toddler from Whitley Bay who died while on a family holiday in Turkey.
Two-year-old Lucy Cardwell died last Friday while on holiday with her mum Sophie in Turkey.
The tragedy comes just over a year after Lucy's uncle, Daniel Cardwell, drowned in a quarry in Marden after a night out with friends.
Lucy was on a summer holiday with her mum Sophie, her partner Karl and Sophie's dad John.
Since the news of her death, tributes have been made on memorial website www.gonetoosoon.co.uk on a page dedicated to Lucy, as well as on Daniel's page, which was set up last year in memory of the teenager.
One comment said: "My thoughts go out to Lucy and Daniel's families, I am sorry to hear about the second tragic loss of your little angel Lucy, without a doubt uncle Dan will be taking good care of her."
A family friend from Milton Keynes commented: "How can life be any more cruel than this?"
Lucy fell into a swimming pool at a friend's home in the resort of Dalyan last Wednesday and it was reported that Sophie jumped into the pool in an attempt to save her daughter.
Paramedics attended the scene and delivered artificial respiration, before Lucy was transferred to four different hospitals.
But Lucy slipped into a coma and died in intensive care on Friday.
In March last year Lucy's uncle, 15-year-old Daniel Cardwell, had been with friends around Marden Quarry, but his family became concerned when he didn't return home, and his body was found in the quarry three days later.
