VOLUNTEERS who improve an area of natural beauty are looking for support as they enter two competitions.
The Friends of Brierdene is entering the beauty spot in Whitley Bay in the community section of the North Tyneside in Bloom competition and the neighbourhood section of Britain in Bloom.

But to help with the entries, members of the Friends group are looking for support from the local community.

Regular litter-picks take place in the Brierdene while volunteers also planted 1,000 English bluebells as part of wildflower meadows which are beginning to blossom.

Other work to take place includes the installation of two bridges, footpaths and a retaining wall, while North Tyneside Council has resurfaced the car park.

All were outlined at the recent annual general meeting.

Officials at Friends of Brierdene are also celebrating after being cited as one of the most active and most successful community conservation groups in North Tyneside.
