YOUNG bands are being invited to showcase their talents for a music festival being held in the summer.

Auditions are being held for the 2012 Event @ Segedunum open-air festival.

Last year’s event in July at Wallsend’s Segedunum Roman Fort for 11 to 19-year-olds proved a major success.

A total of 11 acts performed last year, competing for the chance to play at the Mouth of Tyne Festival.

Now Young Mayor Jade Hope is looking forward to hearing the bands who are challenging to appear on the bill this year.

Jade, pictured, said: “I’m really excited about bringing back The Event @ Segedunum.

“There are some really talented young bands in North Tyneside and I’d love them to audition to be one of our acts.”

Auditions will take place today (Thursday) from 3.30pm to 8pm at Churchill Community College, Churchill Street, Wallsend.

Band members must be aged between 11 and 19 and live or go to school/college in North Tyneside.

There will be one song per audition, and each band being given a maximum ten-minute slot.

The young mayor will select the bands to perform by Sunday, April 1.

Performers can book their audition slot by contacting the council’s participation and engagement team on (0191) 643 8215 or (0191) 643 8218.
