Don’s keeping going on after all

RETIREMENT doesn’t agree with some people, and country and western veteran Don Williams would appear to be one of them.

The novelty of putting his feet up and taking it easy has presumably worn off for Williams as, six years after his supposed farewell tour, the 72-year-old is back on the road and will be at the Sage Gateshead on Friday, April 27.

Williams has been recording as a solo artist since the early 1970s and has penned more than his fair share of country classics since then – such as Tulsa Time, You’re My Best Friend and I Recall a Gypsy Woman – and has had his songs covered by the likes of Johnny Cash, Lambchop and Kenny Rogers.

Tickets cost £35 or £37.50. For details, go to www.thesagegateshead.org
