Laugh a minute with Cantona and co in Looking for Eric

LOOKING for Eric tells the strangely uplifting story of a depressed postman struggling to cope who turns to his idol Eric Cantona for help.

Surprisingly upbeat, Looking for Eric is a sort of Full Monty type feel good film.

Eric Bishop (Steve Evets), left his first wife - and love of his life - Lily (Stephanie Bishop) when she fell pregnant, and never really got over it.

As we meet Eric he's driving round and round a roundabout the wrong way, mid-nervous breakdown.

When he returns home from hospital his two deliquent teenage step-sons that he was saddled with when his second wife left ignore him completely.

(And one of them is harbouring a gun on behalf of a local gangster).

When Eric's daughter (Lucy-Jo Hudson) asks him to mind her baby while she finishes her degree, Eric needs all the strength he can get to see his ex-wife Lily again, and calls on his postmen friends who suggest he look to an inspirational character in his life - Eric Cantona.

And when Cantona mysteriously appears, he slowly helps Eric turn his life around.

This is an incredibly entertaining and amusing film, with some excellent real-life footage of some of Cantona's goals and passes, as well as his inimitable philosophical sayings.

The best moment of the film is when Eric turns to his friends for help in facing the gangster figure his eldest stepson has got into trouble with - true comedy genius that involves many Cantonas and the best line of the film - "I'll find you, because I'm a postman."

This is a warm-hearted, and original film that offers just the right amount of nostalgia and warmth without becoming sappy, and is a joy to watch.
