Liam Neeson turns action hero in Taken
THIS film has had more than it's fair share of bad reviews, but any film that shocks me so much I spontaneously cry, cannot be far off the mark.
Taken follows ex CIA agent Kinsey (the wonderful Liam Neeson) as he fights to save his kidnapped daughter who has been snatched in Paris to be sold into a sordid world of sex-traffiking.
This is a brilliant film. It is the most action-packed and adrenalin filled movie since the Bourne trilogy, with every minute filled with uncertainty as to what will happen and action sequence after action sequence of pure violence.
But it is compelling viewing.

Neeson's daughter Kim (Maggie Grace) goes on holiday to France with her friend Amanda, but not long after they arrive, they are violently 'taken' by a gang of men in a harrowing sequence which is hard to watch for all the right reasons, and disturbed me so much I quite literally burst into tears - all of which is overheard by her dad on the other end of the phone.
Neeson tells the attackers in no uncertain terms that he will find them and he will kill them. This is a man that isn't going to stop until he gets his daughter back.
We then follow a demomic Neeson as he kills anything that stands in the way between him and his daughter as he tracks down those who snatched her.
It is compelling, and harrowing and it will make you stop breathing several times during its 93 minute stint, but it is a good film.
There are some plot flaws in this film that other critics have honed in on, but none are so gaping as to detract from what the film is about.
They are not gaping holes in an otherwise brilliant story, they are merely moments to suspend belief.
Neeson is superbly cast as a die-hard John McLane of the dad world, intent on getting his daughter back at any cost, and apart from a slightly weak ending, this is a fantastic dark film.
