Talented Laura Critchley warms up crowds at Arena

LAURA Critchley is a name you should take note of.

The rising Liverpudlian star is currently on tour with reformed pop band Boyzone and really got the crowds excited at last night's gig.

The Metro Radio Arena was buzzing with excitement waiting for the boys to come on stage and Laura had a tough job as the second support artist getting the audience warmed up, but did a fantastic job as she launched into her set.

The country/pop singer belted out tracks from her album including her catchy new single Today's Another Day, which is released on July 7, which was clearly well enjoyed by the crowd.

Laura may seem a familiar face as she made it to the final 50 in Fame Academy in 2001, and also featured in Sky's First Up in 2004 - so it's great to see her on stage doing what she should be doing.

Laura has already toured with the Sugababes in March 2007, with Ray Quinn in October 2007 and with Deacon Blue in November 2007, and was the perfect warm-up act for the Irish lads on Wednesday evening.

Her powerful voice, and beautifully written songs are sure to be a success, far beyond Radio 2 where so far she has enjoyed massive airplay and has already become a favourite of Terry Wogan.

Sometimes I has to be my favourite song of the too-short set, and What Do We Do was another catchy and passionately sung song.

Every song has been co-written by Laura which is such a refreshing change from many of the soloists out there at the moment, and it's a testament to her that the heart-felt lyrics really come through when she sings with such effortless beauty.

It was her rendition of Take Another Little Piece of My Heart that really worked the crowd up, getting them to sing along as she really put her mark on a fantastic song with such a powerful and husky voice that was quite breathtaking.

Laura has to be one of the greatest support acts I have seen, with her unique voice and simple set that allowed her true talent to shine.

She has great stage presence, and clearly loved every second of being able to sing in front of thousands of screaming fans.

I don't think it will be long before Laura will be headlining her own sell-out gigs and performing for her own army of fans.
