Play offers laughs at regeneration
THE regeneration of North Tyneside has been a major talking point over the past few months.
And it is not very often the topic can make you laugh out loud for an hour and a half.
But Looking for Buddy at Newcastle's Live Theatre does just that.
Local actor Tim Healy takes the lead role in the play, where the characters are haunted by the music of jazz legend Buddy Bolden.
But while unemployed architect Phil (Healy), Frank the Fitter, Fat Jack who's not fat, and Ella ponder about whether the legendary musician actually recorded any music, there is an underlying tale about the future of North Tyneside, and in particular Wallsend.
Upper class big wigs bring grand ideas and consultations to the borough, to the annoyance of locals.
And given the current climate, the heated discussions and the ideas for North Tyneside in real life, the timing of this play could not have been better.
Amidst the humorous tale of the recession there is a collection of jazz musical interludes which compliment the play perfectly.
Poignant solos and upbeat numbers vary throughout, where the singing voices of all six cast members could not be faulted.
The play is local entertainment at it's finest.
The humour on up to date topics make it a laugh out loud experience and a must see for anyone who would like to see the funny side of regeneration.
