Jamie Smith’s Mabon and Maz O’Connor are two of the most highly accomplished and critically acclaimed artists in Britain today.
Folkworks: Jamie Smith’s Mabon and the Maz O’Connor Trio will be at the Sage Gateshead on Friday, January 31, for a double headline show that captures both the depth and breadth of the two intertwined musical cultures – Celtic and English.
Both have won plaudits for their live shows, Jamie Smith’s Mabon having built their reputation on the outstanding original compositions of Jamie Smith and the virtuoso band that plays with him.
Their live show is renowned for its energy and dynamism; their Inter-celtic music travelling beyond borders to explore the forms and styles of the Celtic traditions and work them anew.
Still only 23, Maz has been well known to festival audiences since her teenage years and gained still more prominence in 2013 when she was nominated for the BBC Folk Awards’ prestigious Horizon Award for best newcomer.
Further accolades followed when she was commissioned to compose three songs by Broadstairs Folk Festival last August, songs which will appear on her eagerly anticipated forthcoming album “This Willowed Light” which will be produced by multiple folk award winner Jim Moray.
Folkworks: Jamie Smith’s Mabon and the Maz O’Connor Trio will be at the Sage Gateshead tomorrow, Friday, January 31, at 7.45pm, in the Northern Rock Foundation Hall.
