Ross takes leading role in stage show

A YOUNG pupil at Whitley Bay High School is about to take the title role in the latest Tynemouth Priory Theatre production.

Fourteen-year-old Ross Whyatt, pictured centre with other cast members, is no stranger to the acting world as he already has already a formidable track record for such a young performer having appeared in the film Damned United as well as BBC’s popular adaptation of Lark Rise to Candleford.

Now he will take to the stage in Terence Rattigan’s play The Winslow Boy, where he will play the role of Ronnie Winslow, a cadet at Osborne Naval College who is falsely accused of stealing a postal order and whose father is determined to prove his innocence.

Rattigan based his play, which is set just prior to the First World War, on an actual event, and the production this season marks the club’s tribute to the author in his centenary year.

Producer Christine Coaster said: “The Winslow Boy is beautifully written and the cast has worked hard to get the flavour of the period just right. We are delighted that Ross has joined us for this production. He is a talented young man with a bright future.”

The Winslow Boy opens on Monday, February 20, at 7.30pm, and runs until Saturday, February 25.

Tickets priced from £6 are available by calling (0191) 292 9292.
