KEVIN Keegan reckons Premier League defences will have to be quick, or be dead, when they go up against Jonas Gutierrez.
Gutierrez – who reported back for training today after playing for Argentina in midweek – frightened the life out of double winners Manchester United in last Sunday's 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.

And Keegan is looking forward to the winger – the first signing of his second spell at Newcastle United – going up against Bolton Wanderers at St James's Park tomorrow.

Gutierrez is already a terrace favourite, with dozens of fans having turned up at Old Trafford wearing Spider-man masks and costumes in tribute to the 25-year-old's wacky goal celebration.

They saw Gutierrez run the length of the pitch, only to be denied a one-on-one with Edwin van der Saar by a goal-saving tackle from Nemanja Vidic.

"Only Vidic could have stopped him scoring late on when he got going," Keegan said.

"Not many defenders in this league will catch him, but Vidic is quick.

He's top quality, as everybody knows.

"I thought it was either going to be a goal or a penalty, but Vidic's such a good player, we only got a corner.

"That says more about Vidic than Spider-man."

Some of Keegan's most successful Newcastle signings have been wingers, with the likes of David Ginola, Keith Gillespie and Scott Sellars quickly endearing themselves to the St James's Park faithful.

And Keegan believes Gutierrez will also write himself into Geordie folklore over the coming seasons.

He added:"I think the fans are going to love him.

"I've said it before – I know what Newcastle fans like.

"They're just going to fall in love with this guy, as they have many others before him."

Gutierrez, and his fellow new signing Fabricio Coloccini, played for Argentina in Wednesday night's goalless draw against Belarus in Minsk.

* There will be two cash turnstiles in operation at St James's Park for tomorrow's match against Bolton Wanderers.

Newcastle United fans wanting to pay on the day can use turnstiles 91 and 92.
