Owners of a North Shields shopping centre are planning a major investment.
NewRiver Retail is planning to invest more than £500,000 to regenerate the Beacon Shopping Centre and its signage.
New lighting will be installed, new heating systems placed above all external doors and the flooring will also be refreshed to revitalise the centre’s original tiles.
The iconic clock tower at The Beacon will be restored with new cladding.
Emma Mackenzie, asset manager at NewRiver Retail, said: “We are looking forward to implementing our plans at The Beacon.
“By modernising its look and feel, we are investing in the future of the shopping centre and North Shields. As The Beacon is located in the heart of town, we recognised the importance of providing a welcoming central place for the community.”
Centre manager David Menzies said: “I am delighted to see that our shopping centre is going to receive such a significant investment.
“The Beacon is the heart of our community and we are working hard to ensure that our retail offer is continually evolving.”
Work will start in the New Year and completed by Spring.
