Children had a blooming good time raising money for charity.

Year 3 children at Star of the Sea RC Primary School, Whitley Bay, took the opportunity to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday and raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care by hosting a Blooming Great Tea Party.

Parents and grandparents were invited into school where classrooms had been transformed into the Ritz. The day was made even more special by the arrival of a letter from the Queen thanking boys and girls for the birthday cards they sent to Buckingham Palace.

The event raised £250.

Assistant head teacher Fiona Stevenson said: “We were absolutely delighted to receive a letter from the Queen.”

“All of the children have been talking about it ever since.

“The tea party was a huge success and everyone really enjoyed the day.

“The staff and pupils put a lot of effort into the event and it was great to raise such an impressive amount for charity.”
