A day of family fun is planned as town remembers ‘heyday’

There will be a full day of family fun at the ‘Heyday’ themed Whitley Bay Carnival.

Among the attractions will be music, street theatre and dance, a pop-up bar and barbecue, a miniature flower show and more.

The fun starts in the Station Master’s Garden at Whitley Bay Metro station at 11am with the Bay Uke & Friends, followed by community samba band Drumdin at 11.30am. The ‘Heyday’ parade featuring more than 300 schoolchildren and musicians will set off along Station Road at noon, arriving at Spanish City Plaza at 1pm.

Acts will also be at the Spanish City Plaza from 11am including Salida, North Tyneside Steel Band and Backworth Colliery Brass Band.

There will be rock ‘n’ roll, folk music, Northern Soul and more.

A variety of street acts – including Jean Morag Tea Ladies, On Board Arts, and Fairly Famous Family – will take place every 30 minutes from 1pm at the Plaza until 4.30pm.
