Pupils bid a fond farewell to their lollipop man after he decided to retire at the end of the school year.
Children at Whitley Lodge First School in Whitley Bay held a special assembly and presentation last Friday to thank Les Burns for all his work and efforts patrolling outside the school in Woodburn Drive.
The 84-year-old has worked morning and afternoon for the last 16 years and staff said he had grown a special bond with the youngsters over the years and everyone was sad to see him go.
A school spokesperson said: “We wish Les a happy retirement and thank him for his many years of service.
“The children and staff of Whitley Lodge First School will really miss him.”
