A borough park will get a splash of colour this summer through a special fundraising event.

The Rising Sun Country Park in Wallsend will host a brand new event in aid of St Oswald’s Hospice.

The charity has launched the Kaleidoscope 5k fun run, which will take place in the park on Sunday, July 6.

Participants of all ages can join in and run, jog, skip, walk or cartwheel the course, where they will be showered with brightly coloured paint at checkpoints.

The idea is to begin in a white t-shirt and end covered in a rainbow of colour.

St Oswald’s is hoping the event, which is being held in partnership with Smooth Radio and Northumbrian Water, will raise £100,000.

Gemma Crabb, fundraiser at St Oswald’s, said: “The K5K is going to be a fantastic event that everyone can participate in.

“We are hoping that families, colleagues and friends will get sponsored do the run together, and have lots of fun.

“It’s exciting to be introducing something totally different and new, and we are expecting places to be snapped up.”
