A popular film festival will be hitting new heights next week at the Playhouse Whitley Bay.

This year’s Banff Mountain Film Festival will be shown on screen at the venue on Thursday, March 10, and Friday, March 11.

Cinema-goers can follow the expeditions of some of today’s most incredible adventurers, see amazing footage of adrenaline-packed action sports and be inspired by thought-provoking pieces shot in far-flung corners of the globe.

Now in its seventh edition, the 2016 UK and Ireland leg of the Banff World Tour will be the largest to date, with more than 50,000 adventure lovers expected to gather together indoors to celebrate the outdoors with 85 screenings and 55 tour locations across the UK and Ireland.

Globally, the world tour is enjoyed by more than 400,000 people in 40 different countries.

The tour showcases a diverse collection of the newest and best films from the global mountain culture and sports community.

The two different film programmes, each about two and a half hours in length, are selected from more than 350 films entered for the 40th anniversary Banff Mountain Film Festival, held in the Canadian Rockies in November 2015.

Tickets cost £13.50, £11.50 for concesstions. For details, ring 0844 248 1588.
