Young cadets are celebrating an award hat-trick.

Longbenton Air Cadet Squadron has received a High Sheriff of Tyne and Wear Award in recognition of the valuable services it provides to the community for the third year running.

It was great to have our achievements recognised again.

Rachel Findlay, air cadet

Collecting the honour from the High Sheriff, Judith Thompson, on behalf of the squadron were Connor Price, 18, of Benton, and Rachel Findlay, 15, of Holystone.

Rachel said: “It was great to have our achievements recognised again.

“We do a lot of fun activities and sometimes they’re challenging, but it’s a great feeling when you overcome that challenge. We thank the High Sheriff for her award.”

Connor added: “There are lots of groups in the region who work with young people and they make such a difference. It was a pleasure to be amongst them and celebrate the achievement of young people.”

Mrs Thompson said: “The Longbenton Cadets have enjoyed a remarkable few years.”

“They have remained at the top and it is very fitting that their latest achievements have been recognised.”
