YOUNG cadets have been honoured for their work in the community.

Over the last five years, youngsters at 2344 (Longbenton) Squadron have been working alongside Northumberland County Council to tidy up Bolam Lake Country Park, near Belsay, and their efforts were commended by the authority at this year’s Love Northumberland Awards.

They were given their award by the Duchess of Northumberland, Jane Percy, during a ceremony at the Alnwick Garden, pictured.

Cadet Chloe Durham, 17, of Forest Hall, said: “It’s always very hard work at Bolam Lake, but we really enjoy it, and it makes us feel good to know we have made a difference to visitors’ experiences and the animals that live there.”
