Staff and residents at a care home held a celebratory tea party to mark the company’s 50th anniversary.

Residents at Sandringham Court in Longbenton were treated to a range of sandwiches, scones, eclairs and a cake put on by Hanover Housing Association and catering providers Caterplus Services Ltd.

Mary Stockdale, 99, said: “It gets a nine out of ten in my book. It’s not quite afternoon tea at the Ritz, but it’s as close as it can be.”

To mark Hanover’s 50th anniversary, the board of directors organised a programme of activities to be rolled out over the year.

Tom Brown, head of operations north at Hanover, said: “The afternoon teas have proved to be a real hit with residents.”

Rachel Stone, general manager at Caterplus, said: “We are delighted to join Hanover in celebrating this anniversary event and being given the opportunity to sponsor the afternoon tea.”
