Appeal after suspicious death

Police are continuing to make enquiries into the death of Wallsend man.

Anthony Hampton, 39, was found outside his address in David Street, Wallsend at approximately 8pm on Monday, October 5, with head injuries.

He was taken to the RVI but was confirmed dead at the hospital.

Detectives investigating the death want to speak to a man who was in David Street on October 5 at approximately 6pm, who isdescribed as an older man. He parked a small white van in David Street and was asked to assist another man in the street. This van driver was helpful and came to the man’s assistance.

Officers are asking for this man to come forward as they believe he has information which would help.

Detective Chief Inspector John Bent said: “We are asking for anyone who was in David Street on Monday night between 5pm and 8pm and may have seen or heard anything unusual to contact police.”

A 40-year-old man arrested in connection with the incident remains in custody.
