Three sixth form students have been awarded prizes for their artistic skills.

Whitley Bay High School pupils Faith Kirkwood, Fiona Smith and Oliver Paul were each awarded certificates of merit and art vouchers by Whitley Bay Rotary Club.

The students are part of an exhibition currently on show in the Jam Jar Cinema in Whitley Bay, before moving to the school from June 28 to the end of term.

The presentation was in honour of former Rotarian George Davies, an accomplished watercolour artist, who set up a trust fund to recognise, reward and support local artists.

His daughter Irene Parritt was delighted to see the range of talent and sure her father would have approved of the three eventual winners.

In a packed foyer at the Jam Jar Cinema last Friday evening, students and their guests saw the prizes being presented by Irene, and Jack Ingham, an ex-student of the High School and now studying Architecture at Newcastle University.

First prize went to Oliver Paul, second to Fiona Smith and third to Faith Kirkwood.
