Creative youngsters are being encouraged to showcase their artistic flair at two shopping centres.
The Beacon, in North Shields, and Wallsend’s The Forum shopping centres are holding summer arts and crafts workshops, led by Craft Yourself Silly.
They will take place on Thursday, July 28, from 11am to 1pm at The Beacon and 2pm to 4pm at The Forum.
Children of all ages can make their own kites, painting frisbees and creating treasure chests while local artist Jan Brown, from TyneMet College, will be on hand to treat lucky children and shoppers to their very own hand drawn portraits.
David Menzies, centre manager at The Beacon Shopping Centre, said: “The summer holidays are a great time for kids to get out of the house and engage in activities that are fun and creative.”
The Forum will also be holding an urban beach for three weeks, starting on Monday, July 25.
The beach is free to all, with buckets and spades provided for the kids as well as deckchairs for the adults. It will be open daily from 11am to 3pm in the centre of the mall.
Nick Lambert, centre manager, said: “For those not getting away this year, we thought we’d bring some fun to the centre during the summer holidays.
“We’ve got some great toys for the kids to play with and the adults can sit back and relax on the deckchairs.
“The event is totally free, open to all and a good place for the kids to play and while away those otherwise long summer holidays.”
