A major exhibition is taking place to show support for a community project to transform a derelict site.

The Friends of Tynemouth Pool have been working on plans to bring the former outdoor pool back into use.

This is a fantastic opportunity, not only to raise money to help rebuild the pool, but for upcoming and emerging artists to get their work in front of a big audience

Now the community organisation is to host a high-profile art exhibition to support the campaign.

The Friends are calling all emerging and established artists to submit artwork in any medium based on the theme Make a Splash.

Selected artworks will be on display at the Old Low Light Heritage Centre, North Shields Fish Quay, between November 13 and 26, and all proceeds of the sale of art works will go towards the redevelopment of the pool.

Penny Henry, event organiser and Friends committee member, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity, not only to raise money to help rebuild the pool, but for upcoming and emerging artists to get their work in front of a big audience.

“But more importantly, it’s an unmissable chance for artists to begin to get heavily involved in the exciting and creative and design aspects of the project.”
