A re-working of a famous Wimslow Homer painting will go to auction with sealed bids to raise funds for Cullercoats watch house.

Fisherman and artist Michael Smith has painted his own version of Wimslow’s Four Fish Wives.

Buoyed by the success of a similar venture last year, that saw hundreds of pounds raised for the watch house with the sale of Landing A Catch at Cullercoats, Michael has painted the new image which he has renamed Four Fisher Women.

The artwork is now open to sealed bids of over £200 at the watch house until Heritage Open Day on September 14.

Michael said: “Following the successful sale of Landing A Catch at Cullercoats where we made quite a bit of money for the watch house, I found another Wimslow to paint.”

All proceeds will go to the watch house.
