Children’s author, actor and former stand-up comedian Jonathan Meres visited King’s Junior School in Tynemouth to talk about his latest book.

And he had the pupils and staff raising the rafters with laughter as he talked about his career, which recently saw him concentrating on writing for young readers.

His latest book, May Require Batteries, is the fifth in the popular World of Norm series.

Edinburgh-based Jonathan spent 90 minutes reading sections from the book before answering questions and signing copies.

He said: “King’s pupils were an excellent audience.

“They were bright, witty and asked lots of good questions about my books and my life as a writer.”
