An award ceremony celebrating the contribution volunteers make in North Tyneside has taken place.
The Age Takes Centre Stage Awards is the culmination of a month-long festival of activities for older people in North Tyneside.
Sponsored by Age UK North Tyneside and DFDS Seaways, the awards ceremony took place on board the King of Seaways, while the ship was docked at Royal Quays.
Lesley Spillard, chair of the Age Takes Centre Stage planning group, said: “The Awards Ceremony is always uplifting and everyone who is nominated is congratulated. ”
The two categories are: Older People Together – to celebrate the achievements of groups based in North Tyneside and in which at least half the members are over 50, that give older people more opportunities to enjoy life and contribute to the community; and Individual Achievement in Volunteering – for an older person who has given a lot to the community in North Tyneside as a volunteer.
Captain Karsten Sittrup Jeppesen presented the certificates and prizes.
